For years I played the victim. Not by choice but by force. A victim who forgot she was a woman with beautiful assets and I  was raised to believe that I should hide them. I was trained to believe that bigger isn’t better for me as a woman. I was also trained to believe if the majority of my body isn’t covered then I am at fault if men glare and gawk at me. Regardless if I have the same curves as Kim Kardashian I shouldn’t own them with pride. I should, you guessed it, hide them by dressing as someone who is 15+ years older than my true age. Shame became inflicted on me from the moment I came out of the womb and once I was declared to be a girl.

As a member of a Middle Eastern society I am sure I am not the only woman who felt this way as a girl. Just as sure that I am not the only one who had parents that wanted their daughters to also cover up. But is that right? Is limiting a girl from not being too comfortable in her own skin the way to go? Is displaying how whatever a girl’s body may be like an excuse to build shame and guilt just to act as a convenience for the opposite sex?

What do you think of this? Do you agree that a @khaleejigirl should be ashamed of her God given curves or do you think she should dress as comfortably as she feels even if that means showing off her body?

How far does a @khaleejigirl have to go without forgetting herself and her upbringing before she forgets herself? And for that matter, does culture and upbringing play a vital role in the life of every @khaleejigirl?
